United Way mixer entry fee: Books for young readers
The United Way Emerging Leaders is hosting a mixer to collect new books for the local Raising a Reader program from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at the Petroleum Club of Bakersfield.

Youth encouraged to audition for Singing Camp
Former American Idol contestant Amy Adams is partnering with Garden Pathways to offer two sessions of “Singing Camp” this summer. Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. July 6 for youth ages 9 to 18. The camp is part of an initiative to mentor youth through the arts.

Join the BE team as we walk to support the arts
The Walk for the Arts on Saturday, May 15, is a 5K ramble around Bakersfield’s Downtown Arts District. Organized by the Arts Council of Kern, it is a fundraiser for organizations to raise money for their arts programs. Join the Bakersfield Express team to support the arts and our mission for “Expressing community through arts, culture and civic involvement.”
