Oildorado 2010 celebrates Taft’s centennial
Beard and hair bun contests, a bronze sculpture unveiling, and an oilfield skills competition are just a few of the festivities planned for Taft’s 100th birthday and Oildorado Days celebration Oct. 15-24. It takes five years to plan each Oildorado, say event organizers.

Calling Fellows home 100 years after Midway Gusher
The former oil boomtown of Fellows in west Kern is still home to a handful of families who call the enclave a haven for small-town life. Friday, Nov. 27, is the anniversary of the oil gusher that put Fellows on the map.
