  • Oildorado 2010 celebrates Taft’s centennial

    Beard and hair bun contests, a bronze sculpture unveiling, and an oilfield skills competition are just a few of the festivities planned for Taft’s 100th birthday and Oildorado Days celebration Oct. 15-24. It takes five years to plan each Oildorado, say event organizers.

    The Arts Council of Kern is holding an informational meeting Tuesday, June 22, for artists to learn about three opportunities for juried art exhibits: A tactile exhibit at the Center for the Blind, a bicycle-themed show for KernCOG’s 40th anniversary, and a display of art inspired by oil or West Kern for Taft’s “Oildorado Days.”
