First Friday kiosk dedication ceremony to honor KayLa Conway
The First Friday celebration on September 2, will honor the late KayLa Conway, by dedicating a kiosk at 19th and Eye streets. Ms. Conway owned the Curiosity Shop on 19th street. She was a contributor to downtown culture.

Weekend Fun in Frazier Park
On August 5-7, there will be a 44th annual celebration at Frazier Mountain Community Park. Called Fiesta Days, it will feature activities for the whole family. Parking and admission are free. Also in Frazier Park, on Saturday night, August 6, a separate event will show a free outdoor screening of a new science fiction action movie, “The FP”.

Don Thompson, local poet, to read at Russo’s on Aug. 11
Kevin Shah praises a local poet of some renown, Don Thompson, who will give a free reading of his poems at Russo’s Books at 7 p.m. Aug. 11. Shah runs an open mic on that night and generally on the second Thursday of each month, during which the public is invited to participate by reading their own works, if they wish.

Production of Super Villain!! opens at Bakersfield Community Theater
Super Villain!! a dark comedy with superheroes and bumbling sidekicks, is previewed by one of its actors, Thomas Robinson. The play can be seen on July 22, 23, 29, and 30 at Bakersfield Community Theater.
