The Downtown Business Association will be dedicating the 19^th & Eye kiosk restoration  project to KayLa Conway, owner of the Curiosity Shop on 19^th Street, who passed away on June 20, 2011. Curtis Conway, co-owner of the shop, and Kayla’s children Ben Conway and Diana Klawitter will appear at the dedication.

Diana is also owner of The House of Flowers on 19^th Street next to Kuka’s. Several years ago the DBA and City of Bakersfield worked to improve one of the darkest areas  of downtown at 19^th & Eye.  The kiosk was installed two years ago as part of this project, but had been hit with graffiti and unwanted flyers.  All this had created an unsightly kiosk.

At the DBA meeting this month the board decided to restore the kiosk and dedicate it to the memory of KayLa Conway. A team effort was established with Tony Moreno of the Bakersfield Police Department and Stephen Montgomery of the KeepBakersfieldBeautiful Committee, to remove the graffiti. Don Martin provided the cork board and the DBA installed the plaque.

The DBA arranged the ceremony set for First Friday September 2^nd at 5 p.m. Mayor Harvey Hall will dedicate the kiosk.
