Audience picks the music in ‘Jukebox Legends’
By Thomas G. Robinson, Director of “Jukebox Legends”
It’s just another night of annoying, not-so-sober customers for a hapless bartender who must continuously deal with all kinds of down-and-out boozers. Tonight, however, it’s even more annoying when a drunk and out-of-work former DJ goes into the bar reminiscing about his glory days. Could it get any worse?
Eventually, the former DJ ends up face to face with a mysterious jukebox that plays music that is just a little too close to his heart … and … is … it … talking to him? Is the jukebox alive?
This theatrical production is the first of its kind in Bakersfield. Yes, there have been other popular music revues here before. But not like this. You see, the jukebox theme is real. You, the audience member, will decide the course of the show. The audience will steer the show in this direction or that – choosing each song by putting a dollar in the jukebox. Which song will be performed by the featured artist? You will decide. (Bring some singles!)
Featuring music from the ‘40s through the early ‘90s, you’re sure to enjoy 50 years of pop legendary hits from Bakersfield’s finest singers, actors and performers.
The show stars Aubrie Calloway, Matt Christensen, Ellie Hartman, James Kopp, Taylor Lozano, Tonya May, Roscoe Myrick, Thor Reese, Thomas G. Robinson, Kama Ruby, Kristina Saldana, Corey Skaggs (June 3 performance only), Lindsey Smith, Eric Tolley and Hester Wagner.
This show was conceived by Roger Mathey, James Kopp and Thomas G. Robinson, written by James Kopp and directed by Thomas G. Robinson. “Jukebox Legends” will take you on a musical journey of fun, fantasy and fantastic entertainment.
“Jukebox Legends” opens at The Empty Space Theatre on Friday, May 21 with performances on the 22, 27, 28 and 29, as well as June 3, 4 and 5.
