Homeless Center seeks Thanksgiving dinner donations

From the Bakersfield Homeless Center:

The Bakersfield Homeless Center has been able to provide a special Thanksgiving Dinner for homeless families and children for the past 17 years.

The star of the traditional Thanksgiving meal is the turkey.  The center needs about 75 turkeys each year to provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Donations of potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce, stuffing, butter, milk, eggs and pies are also needed.

“It is because of the generosity of our community that BHC can help the homeless at holiday time,” explained Louis Gill, the center’s executive director.  “During this holiday season, BHC will provide over 35,000 meals to the homeless and hungry. People in Kern County share their blessings.”

This year’s Thanksgiving celebration for homeless families and children in our community will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.

For more donation information, please call Barbara Paulson at 322-9199, or drop your donations by the Bakersfield Homeless Center, 1600 E. Truxtun Ave., between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. by Friday, Nov. 20.
