Please join the Tree Foundation of Kern, Liberty High School seniors and volunteers from Hope 4 Kern for a morning of replanting and sprucing up the San Miguel Commemorative Grove.
We will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, and will work until around 1 pm. We’ll have water, coffee and donuts for everyone. Please RSVP by calling 325-6650 or e-mailing treeinfo@urbanforest.org.
San Miguel Grove is located at Manor Street and Denise Avenue at the base of the bluffs, adjacent to the bike path.
Please wear leather shoes or boots and bring heavy-duty gardening gloves. Hats and sunscreen are also a good idea. If you have a pitch fork or a dirt rake, please label the handle with your name and bring it along too. We will be moving lots of tumbleweeds.
The grove was created in partnership with the city of Bakersfield to offer the public an opportunity to celebrate a significant event or to memorialize a loved one by planting a tree. A bronze plaque will accompany each tree planted.
Donors choose their trees from a list of 18 choices, including oaks, alders, ashes and more. The trees are maintained by the city of Bakersfield and the Tree Foundation of Kern. Trees are planted twice a year by volunteers, but plantings at other times may be arranged for an additional cost.
