Russian dancers take audience around the world

The Russian Seasons Dance Company

The Russian Seasons Dance Company

By Beverley Park

Sunday afternoon at the Rabobank Theater, audience members were thrilled and exhilarated by the performance of the Russian Seasons Dance Company from Moscow.

The show opened with Russian folk music choreographed to showcase the versatile Russian dance styles. The music score provided very easy listening and led the audience from one side of the world to another through masterful choreography and arrangements of traditional folk tunes from different nations.

Nikolai Androsov, the artistic director and choreographer, led the audience from one nation to another. With vitality, precision and excellence, the dancers presented everything from athletic Russian folk dances to neo-classical and modern styles of flamenco, tango, step dancing, Irish folk dancing, modern jazz and ending with a spirited rendition of  American Broadway musicals.

Even though many countries and styles were tastefully presented, one was continually aware of the Russian influence. The discipline and training of the troupe was made even more apparent in the graceful presentations, and the handsomely attired dancers.

This group has been presented around the world and was being filmed during this performance for part of a production by PBS.  The presentation through modern media will certainly make an impact on anyone privileged to see them.
