What to do this week: Halloween edition!

Haunted houses, theatrical performances and children’s events — there is something for everyone this week and weekend as Bakersfield celebrates Halloween.

Here are some highlights:
Talladega Frights Haunted House
It’s is back for more scary family fun during the month of October. Four themed areas cover 15,000 square feet and utilize 80 volunteer actors. Hours are 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday and 7 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. The haunted house is also open every night from Monday, Oct. 26, to Saturday, Oct. 31. The Chamber Haunted House
The sixth annual haunted house, The Chamber, is open from 7 p.m. to about midnight Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 28-31, for its final week this year. The Chamber is located on the grounds of Sam Lynn Ballpark, 4009 Chester Ave. Admission is $10 and $2 dollar off coupons can be downloaded from www.chamberhaunt.com. New this year is a 3D attraction, Alien Invasion, which is $5.
Evil Dead: The Musical
The Spotlight Theatre presents “Evil Dead the Musical” directed by Jarred Clowes, at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through the month of October. Additional shows are Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults with discounts for seniors, students and groups. For more information, call 634-0692 or visit www.spotlightfound.org. From Spotlight: “Based on the Cult Classic Film franchise Evil Dead the Musical is an hilarious way to spend Halloween. In this comedic take on the ’80s horror franchise, characters and demons sing and dance … Be warned that the first few rows may get bloody as undead drop like flies. Ponchos are provided during the 15 minute intermission before Act Two.”
Join Spotlight Theatre on Halloween night at 1622 19th St. The fun starts at 7 p.m. with magician Ron Saylor with “Magic & Mystery,” an all-ages show. Then at 9 p.m. see the campy comedy “Evil Dead: The Musical.” Following that, at midnight, is a showing of the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Call 634-0692 or visit www.spotlightfound.org for more details and prices.
The Skylight Zone
The Gaslight Melodrama presents “The Skylight Zone,” written and directed by Michael Prince in tribute to the classic TV show “The Twilight Zone.” Just in time for Halloween. Shows are at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays at 12748 Jomani Drive. Tickets are $20 adults, $18 seniors, $9 children for Friday and Saturday shows; and $18 for all adults and $9 for children for Sunday shows. For reservations call 587-3377. Mischief Night Masquerade
The Empty Space Theatre is throwing a Halloweel party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30. Mischief Night Masquerade includes live DJs, games, prizes and $1 alcoholic beverages. Admission is $8 presale and $10 at the door. For more details call 327-PLAY or visit www.esonline.org.
Burn The Witch IV
The annual Burn The Witch all-women art show hosts a comedy night from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Westchester Hall, 2801 F St. The closing reception is a Halloween party from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the same location. Wear your costumes! Admission is $5. Proceeds support Bakersfield Emerging and Contemporary Artists and the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault. Murder At The Museum
Buena Vista Museum’s first Halloween party and third Annual Murder Mystery night is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 at 2018 Chester Ave. This year come dressed as your favorite character, who or whatever that might be. This is a participating event involving all those attending. Random clues will be given out throughout the evening. Ticket includes appetizers, dinner, desert and prizes. $65 Members, $75 nonmembers. Safe Halloween 2009
The Kern County Museum Foundation presents Safe Halloween 2009 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31 at the museum, 3801 Chester Ave. Children from 3 to 12 will trick-or-treat at more than 30 stations. FLICS: Let The Right One In
FLICS, Bakersfield’s international cinema society, continues its season with “Let the Right One In” by Tomas Alfredson, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 at the Fox Theater, 2001 H St. Synopsis: A 12-year-old boy befriends a young girl who mysteriously appears in coincidence with a series of murders.
