Help with “Make a Blanket Day”

Project Linus, which makes blankets for children who are ill, traumatized or in need, is hosting “Make a Blanket Day” this Saturday, Sept. 12. The group is seeking volunteers to sew or — if you don’t know how to sew — to help in many ways to make blankets. The volunteer event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of Latter-day Saints, 5500 Fruitvale Ave.

Here is how you can help:

  • Bring your sewing machine from home to assist with sewing, or bring your knitting or crocheting fingers if that’s more your cup of tea.
  • For non-sewers, you can help by cutting squares, dying fabric, or helping with other tasks.
  • The group is asking for donations of 1 1/2-yard lengths of kid-friendly fleece, flannel, cotton fabric and batting.
  • Hope 4 Kern is seeking drivers to transport youth volunteers from Martin Luther King Jr. Park to the church. Volunteer drivers must arrive at the Stop the Violence office at the park by 7:15 a.m. For more information about transporting the youth, call Sean Battle at 427-3993.
